Location & Contract: Location: Primarily East Midlands, UK (national travel may be required). Contract: Up to 6 months. Hours: Full-time, site-based with accommodation and expenses covered.
About the Role: We are looking for both experienced and graduate Geophysicists to support and lead geophysical surveys across the UK. The role involves hands-on fieldwork, data collection, and quality control, with the opportunity to develop and expand your skills in geophysical survey techniques. The work is primarily based in the East Midlands, but may involve travel across the UK and working away from home during the week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct and assist with geophysical surveys, including Seismic Refraction, MASW, and Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT).
- Support survey planning, site setup, and equipment deployment.
- Ensure accurate data collection and quality control (QC), reviewing and interpreting geophysical data.
- Supervise and coordinate field teams (for experienced candidates).
- Generate survey reports and support client deliverables.
- Maintain safe working practices and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Work collaboratively with project managers, clients, and team members.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Experienced Geophysicists: Proven experience leading geophysical surveys and managing field teams. Hands-on experience with Seismic Refraction, MASW, and ERT. Strong knowledge of geophysical data processing, survey logistics, and QC. Experience with software such as SEIS-SPACE, MESA, STAR UPHOLE, Petrel, or equivalent.
- Graduate / Field Geophysicists: Degree in Geophysics, Earth Sciences, or a related field. Some field experience preferred (geophysics, construction, or survey work). Familiarity with Seismic Refraction, MASW, ERT, or GPR desirable. Eager to learn, adaptable, and able to work in varied outdoor conditions.
- All Candidates: Full UK Driving Licence (required). Strong teamwork and communication skills. Ability to work away from home during the week.
Desirable Qualifications & Certifications:
- CSCS card.
- Emergency First Aid at Work certificate.
