Hours: Full Time - 35-hour week
Shape the safety of one of the UK's most critical defence programmes. We're supporting a leading defence organisation in the search for a Principal Independent Peer Review Assessor to join its Independent Nuclear Oversight team based at Devonport, Plymouth. Reporting directly to the Head of Nuclear Oversight, you'll play a key role in independently reviewing and evaluating nuclear and radiological safety cases that support the maintenance and operation of the UK's submarine fleet. This is a highly technical assurance position where you'll challenge safety arguments, assess engineering evidence and provide expert feedback to authors, ensuring the highest standards of nuclear safety and regulatory compliance are maintained.
The Role
- Conducting independent peer reviews of nuclear and radiological safety cases.
- Assessing the quality, completeness and robustness of technical safety arguments.
- Providing constructive technical feedback and recommendations to Safety Case authors.
- Reviewing engineering modifications, safety documentation and technical reports.
- Presenting findings to senior Nuclear Safety Committees.
- Working closely with engineers, technical specialists and key stakeholders across the business.
- Supporting continuous improvement of peer review processes and nuclear safety standards.
About You
We're looking for an experienced safety professional who enjoys analysing complex technical information and providing independent assurance. You'll ideally have:
- Experience within the nuclear industry or another high-hazard environment.
- Strong understanding of Safety Cases and safety justification.
- Experience reviewing or developing technical safety arguments.
- Knowledge of safety assessment techniques such as FMECA, Fault Tree Analysis or similar.
- A STEM degree in Engineering or Science.
- Excellent communication skills with the confidence to challenge technical decisions constructively.
- The ability to engage effectively with a range of technical stakeholders.
Experience from industries such as:
- Nuclear
- Defence
- Petrochemical
- Rail
- Other highly regulated or high-consequence engineering environments will also be considered.
