We are looking for a proactive and experienced Senior HSE Advisor to join our client’s operations at Devonport Dockyard, supporting critical shipbuilding and repair activities within a highly regulated environment.

The Role

Reporting to the HSE Manager, you will play a pivotal role in delivering HSE excellence across site operations. You will not only provide expert advice and guidance but also act as a key on-site presence, driving standards, influencing behaviours, and supporting operational delivery. You will also be trusted to deputise for the HSE Manager when required, making this an excellent opportunity for someone ready to step up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide timely, expert advice on all HSE matters in line with legislation, company policies, and client requirements
  • Support the delivery of the HSE strategy and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Assist in the development of safety plans, risk assessments, and method statements
  • Maintain a strong, visible presence on site—challenging unsafe behaviours and promoting best practice
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and incident investigations, identifying trends and improvement opportunities
  • Produce accurate daily and weekly HSE reports for senior leadership
  • Manage and maintain site-specific HSE documentation and systems
  • Support Safe Start initiatives and hazard identification processes
  • Engage with workforce representatives to ensure active participation and consultation
  • Build strong relationships with client HSE teams and internal departments
  • Deliver toolbox talks, briefings, and training sessions where required
  • Promote health, wellbeing, and behavioural safety initiatives
  • Contribute to wider operational delivery programmes across the business.

Candidate Profile

You are a hands-on, confident senior HSE professional who is not afraid to challenge the status quo and address issues in the moment. You bring energy, presence, and a solutions‑focused mindset to everything you do.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience in a safety‑related role
  • Strong background in construction, heavy industry, or ideally shipbuilding/repair environments
  • Proven ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Excellent communication skills—clear, direct, and effective
  • Strong working knowledge of HSE legislation and compliance requirements
  • Experience with HSE systems, reporting tools, and data management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital reporting platforms
  • Ability to manage workload independently and meet deadlines
  • NEBOSH Health & Safety Diploma (or equivalent)
  • NEBOSH General Certificate
  • IOSH Membership

Hours of Work

37.5 hours per week: Mon–Thurs: 08:00 – 16:00 Fri: 08:00 – 14:00
