Our Technical Authoring team provides clear, accurate and user-friendly documentation for complex engineering products across Ultra Maritime’s products, everything from hardware to software. You will work closely with engineers, project managers, and support teams to ensure technical information is communicated effectively to end‑users and stakeholders. You will be expected to be flexible and work across a number of different projects. This role will involve engagement with projects, and requires someone who is not afraid to get stuck into the detail, whilst understanding the considerations of cost, quality and schedule. This role involves a keen eye for detail, and may include the creation of technical drawings. It offers a chance to grow your career within a progressive, dynamic environment with exposure to ground‑breaking technologies and systems, including the world’s first Integrated Sonar System and the market-leading fully digital Hull Mounted Sonar, S2150.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including user manuals, maintenance guides, and service bulletins.
- Translate complex engineering concepts into clear, concise language, using simplified technical English.
- Ensure all documentation complies with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with design and support teams to gather technical data and verify accuracy.
- Manage document revisions and configuration control throughout the product lifecycle.
- Support digital content creation, including interactive manuals and online help systems.
- Engage and develop skills across engineering, including Mechanical Engineering and Configuration Management as demand occurs.
Qualifications
- Dynamic, professional engineer or technician with experience within a high technology or regulated industry.
- Experience as a Technical Author in an engineering or technical environment.
- Understanding of engineering principles and technical terminology.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in documentation tools (e.g., Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare) - nice to have.
- Proficient in MS Office.
- Knowledge of standards such as S1000D.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
Additional Requirements
- Understand and take responsibility for documentation created using S1000D within the organisation.
- Requires UK Security Clearance.
