Our client is seeking a Configuration Manager for a contract job in Portsmouth. As part of the CADM team, the Configuration Manager is responsible for ensuring Company guidelines are adhered to and CM (Configuration Management) best practices are followed. They provide guidance to the CADM team stakeholders, support process production/improvement, support CM tools user guides production, CM tools improvement, and CM tools new releases training. The Configuration Manager will work closely with project, product, and service teams while being part of the CADM team. They are the 1st line of support and training for the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tool /Configuration Management Database (CMDB) users.
Responsibilities
- Performing CM activities (identification, control and planning, change, status accounting, audit).
- Recording, controlling, maintaining and distributing the controlled data.
- Providing reports to the CADM Team Lead and/or the project, product or service teams.
- Work in a shared workload environment, specifically supporting 1 project/product or more as the CADM focal point supported by CADM team members.
- Responsible, jointly with the rest of the CADM team, to maintain the PLM/CMDB in a fit state.
- Ability to work autonomously, as well as be a team player within the greater functional team, efficiently and methodically with good organisational and interpersonal skills is essential.
- Correspond with nominated counterparts in the customer and suppliers, recording external documentation into the CMDB and sending internal documentation to external stakeholders.
- Support all CM activities facing external stakeholders, providing evidence and supporting any related requests.
- Ensure CM compliance by contributing to project level activities with internal and external stakeholders.
- Record documents/data in the CMDB.
- Control of existing documents in the CMDB.
- External/Internal Distribution of documents/data.
- Monitor and control the quality of internal documents.
- Creation and management of relevant structures in the CMDB.
- Monitor and control the state of the CMDB.
- Control access to the CMDB.
- Support Project team members for CADM related queries, provide guidance on both Document and Data Management and CMDB use.
- Propose process improvements.
- Support the CADM team members.
- Report on activities, CMDB state and documentation/data status.
- Support CADM Team Leader.
- Run the day-to-day management of the configuration status of the Project.
- Produce the Project Configuration and Data Management Plan(s), Project Change Management Plan and/or Procedure in line with PLM processes.
- Set up and run the CM activities as part of project lifecycle (including audits).
- Manage the Project(s) workload and highlight any perceived adjustments that might be required to the Local Team Lead or Department Head.
- Lead CADM team members assigned to ‘your' project(s).
- Work closely with the Customer and Project ensuring the requirements are maintained without additional cost or impact to Project or Customer.
- Create, manage and distribute the relevant structures (BOMs, Product Trees, Equipment Assembly trees, etc.).
- Support Project team members for CADM related queries and provide guidance on both Configuration Management and CMDB use.
- Set up and run the CCB activities (Initiation, assessment, CCB facilitation, agenda and report).
- Develop CM processes & Tool improvements.
Skills / Proven Ability
- Digitally Literate and proficient with MS Office Tools.
- Previous experience of file/data management tools (MS Office, PDF editor, FTP, Nero, etc.).
- Full Configuration Management knowledge (Configuration Identification, Configuration Structures (Assembly / Product etc), Baseline Management, Change Management, Status Accounting, Auditing).
- Skills in Product Data Management tools (Windchill, Teamcenter, Aras Minerva, etc.) required.
- Understanding of project, product lifecycle highly desirable.
- Exposure to APQP, CMII would be an asset.
- Setting up the Configuration processes on new projects highly desirable.
Required qualification level
- Good standard of education, Degree, HNC, Diploma, NVQ Level 5 or higher.
- Oral & written English Language essential.
- The role requires SC and eligibility to handle ITAR.
Desirable
- CM II or equivalent qualification desirable.
- European languages advantageous.
- Proven ability in Configuration Management in a technical or data management environment.
- Working with Customers in a CM Liaison role.
- Working within a sensitive data environment advantageous.
