Environmental Advisor in Cambuslang

Overview

Scottish Power Transmissions is seeking Environmental Advisors for long‑term contract roles at Cambuslang Site, working hybrid.

Positions are available at various experience levels from a few years to Senior level, within the Delivery and Development teams.

Purpose

As an Environmental Advisor you will support the SP Transmission Environmental Manager, the Environmental Department, and the Engineering and Construction staff to deliver, monitor and continually improve the company’s Environmental Management Systems and practices to maintain ISO 14001 accreditation.

You will provide environmental specialist advice to internal and external parties for the engineering and construction of energy‑related projects.

Responsibilities

• Comply with the internal Environmental Management System to preserve ISO 14001 accreditation.
• Provide support and advice to the project team before and throughout construction to meet statutory environmental requirements.
• Sustain and improve Environmental Procedures, identifying and responding to emerging environmental legislation relevant to construction activities.
• Provide proactive, specialist guidance regarding environmental controls, constraints, and legislation specific to the project.
• Develop and implement improved methods, techniques and practices that enhance environmental performance.
• Develop an Environmental Management Plan for the project, ensuring that survey findings and any licences are incorporated.
• Liaise directly with regulators and stakeholders (including, but not limited to, Nature Scot) throughout the project.
• Manage environmental monitoring and inspection programmes to document performance, compliance and prepare mandatory reports for internal and external distribution.
• Support investigations and reporting of environmental incidents.
• Develop and deliver environmental training and awareness initiatives.
• Review contractors’ environmental documentation, emphasizing environmental regulations and requirements.

Skills & Requirements

We look for individuals with proven environmental management experience, knowledge of ISO 14001, environmental auditing, and experience dealing with environmental regulators, ideally in a commercial utility, service or construction environment.

Must understand ecological and hydrological aspects on construction sites.

• Degree in a relevant environmental discipline.
• In‑depth knowledge of current and developing environmental legislation.
• Strong influencing, consulting, and communication skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with confident speaking ability.
• Sound planning and analysis skills – anticipate problems and devise solutions.
• Experience collaborating with contractors.
• Membership of an environmental professional body desirable.
• Environmental Auditing qualification desirable.
• Mandatory Mandates
• 3+ years’ experience in an on‑site Environmental Role within an engineering or construction related environment.
• Computer literacy and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of ecological and hydrological aspects on construction sites.
• CSCS card or Safety Passport.
• Current valid driving licence.
