The predicted salary is between 13 - 16 £ per hour.

Recognising the RESTRICTED nature of the work suitable candidates will be baseline level (BPSS) clearable or eligible for this level of clearance.

Our client GKN Aerospace are looking to recruit several Composite Operators to be based at their Western Approach site (postcode is BS35 4GG). The role will involve the manufacture of aircraft components from composite materials which meet design and engineering requirements.

Rates:

  • Days pays £16.38 p/hour
  • Any Weekday Overtime pays £24.57 p/hour
  • Weekend Overtime pays £32.76 per hour
  • Any Shift Rate pays £20.97 p/hour (overtime rates the same as above)

Hours:

  • Short period of Days (Mon to Fri 7.30am to 3.30pm) then working Shift, hours as follows:
  • WEEK ONE: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday (6am to 6pm) 57.5 hours
  • WEEK TWO: Weds & Thursday (6am – 6pm) 23 hours

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manufacture aircraft components from carbon and glass fibre pre-preg materials
  • Use processing equipment to lay-up and cure composite wing spars and test pieces
  • Use forming presses, drape machines, vacuum presses, automated tape lay and fibre placement machines, laser projection equipment, autoclaves and ovens to manufacture and cure composite spars
  • Prepare and clean mandrels and cure tooling for manufacture of composite spars
  • Participate fully in local continuous improvement activities
  • Work in line with Health & Safety site requirements

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Minimum NVQ Level 2
  • Ability to operate CNC machines and processes
  • Experience of assembling and manufacturing production components using drawings and processes
  • Experience in a manual handling work environment
  • Ability to assemble and trim composite and ancillary materials to close tolerances
  • Good hand skills and co-ordination
  • Understand aircraft drawings, limits and quality systems
  • Knowledge of composite bonding and assembly techniques using pre-preg materials
  • Self-motivation with good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both alone and in small teams
  • Ability and willingness to undertake training and understanding of composite manufacturing techniques and processes
  • To take responsibility to “self-certify” own work
  • Working knowledge of IT systems including SAP and Microsoft packages
