The Opportunity
A growing technology business is looking for an experienced
Software Engineering Manager to join its Manchester-based technology team.
This is a key leadership position, offering the opportunity to influence how engineering teams operate, develop technical talent and contribute to the continued evolution of a successful digital product environment.
You’ll be joining an established engineering function with ambitious plans for growth, working alongside product and technology colleagues to deliver high-quality software and continuously improve the way teams build and operate technology.
The Role
As Software Engineering Manager, you will
- Lead and develop a team of software engineers, providing coaching, mentoring and technical leadership.
- Help create a high-performing engineering culture focused on quality, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with Product and other technology stakeholders to turn business requirements into effective technical solutions.
- Contribute to engineering strategy, technical decision-making and long-term development plans.
- Support recruitment and the continued growth of the engineering team.
- Champion effective software development practices and help improve engineering standards.
- Ensure teams have the processes and support required to deliver reliable, maintainable software.
- Help identify opportunities to improve development efficiency and engineering productivity.
- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.
- Encourage a pragmatic approach to problem-solving, learning from challenges and continuously improving the technology estate.
- What I’m Looking For
I’m interested in speaking with Engineering Managers who have a strong technical background and a proven ability to lead and develop software engineering teams.
You should have
- Several years’ experience managing software engineering teams.
- A substantial background in software development before moving into engineering leadership.
- Experience leading teams through growth and organisational change.
- Strong technical understanding of modern software engineering principles.
- Experience working on complex, customer-facing digital products.
- The ability to understand technical challenges and make sound engineering decisions.
- A strong track record of coaching, mentoring and developing engineers.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- A commercially aware approach to engineering, balancing technical quality with delivery and business objectives.
- Experience working within Agile development environments.
- The Person
We’re looking for someone who is technically credible, commercially minded and genuinely enjoys developing people .
You should be comfortable operating at both strategic and technical levels, able to challenge ideas constructively while empowering engineers to take ownership.
This would suit an Engineering Manager who is looking for a role where they can have a meaningful influence on people, technology and delivery , rather than simply managing day-to-day engineering activity.
