To support the Hatfield Site Manager and wider O&M team in delivering the safe, efficient, environmentally compliant, and economic operation and maintenance of the Hatfield Gas Storage Facility that ensures plant availability is maximised whilst ensuring we operate within the constraints imposed by company policy and applicable statutory legislation.
Accountability Statements
- Focal point for outsourced higher level Engineering Support team. Balancing risk, budget, maintenance regime and the technical capabilities of the plant to deliver best in class performance.
- Support strategic initiatives and targets to ensure that high standards of safety and environmental performance are maintained and improved upon.
- Performing the role of system administrator for the electronic Works Management System (WMS) and providing a central resource to site WMS users.
- Delivery of unplanned and planned outages.
- Working with Outsourced Maintenance to develop and deliver major outages and other capital projects.
- Support the integration of plant modifications to enable a successful transition.
- Support the training and development of others to ensure flexible succession options.
- Optimise and develop maintenance routines to meet developing market opportunities.
- Undertaking duties under the Company Safety Rules within limit of Certificate of Authorisation.
- Ensuring maintenance activities comply with the requirements of the Company Safety Rules and Safety Instructions.
- Fulfilling the role of Work Sponsor in the planning and delivery of work by outsourced maintenance team and other parties as and where required.
- Providing guidance and day‑to‑day direction to Maintenance Team where necessary.
- Liaising with Competent Authorities as and where required to ensure the continued safe operation of the plant and safety of persons through adherence to the requirements of the Pressure System Safety Regulations (PSSR), Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER), Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER).

Responsible for day‑to‑day planned and emergent maintenance activities to maximise availability and optimise asset life and running costs of all main and auxiliary plant at Hatfield Gas Storage Facility.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Operated at an engineering level within the Gas or Process Industry.
- Developed level of experience in the Gas or Process Industry with a good understanding of process operations and maintenance.
- Skilled user of Works Management System.
- A familiar user of Microsoft Office range of pc applications.
- Freely exchanging knowledge and experience to increase the overall capability of the O&M team.
- Acceptant of change and willing participant in initiatives to advance performance.
Planning & Organising
- Ability to organise own workload and direct others within the context of the operational plan.
- Agrees and works towards fulfilment of team and individual performance objectives.
- Lead planning meeting to arrive at optimum week ahead plan balancing resources, planned and emergent maintenance work, and plant availability and flexibility.
- Ability to compile concise technical reports detailing plant incidents, and repair and investment options.
- Collating plant performance data.
- Undertaking training as and where necessary to improve level of competence of both self and others.
- Maintain effective working relationship with counterparts in Outsourced Maintenance and Engineering teams to enable mutual support at time of leave, absence, or increased workload.
Internal and External Relationships
Internal contacts include: Hatfield Site Manager, Production Manager, Outsourced Maintenance and Engineering Team, Shift Production Teams, Compliance Manager. Regular liaison and meetings with SPEML Management Team on engineering matters. External contacts include: Appointed Competent Authorities for PSSR, LOLER, PSR and GSMR compliance, Independent Well Examiner, ISO accreditation bodies, Systems UK staff for updates and changes to WMS. Contribute to Iberdrola Global Practice Groups as and where required.
