As an HR Business Partner, you will provide both operational and strategic HR support across a designated business area. Working closely with managers and senior leaders, you will act as a trusted advisor on all people matters, ensuring consistent, legally compliant, and commercially focused HR practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide end-to-end HR support across the employee lifecycle.
  • Build strong relationships with managers and senior leaders to understand business priorities and workforce needs.
  • Advise and coach managers on HR policies, procedures, and UK employment legislation.
  • Support the review, development, and implementation of HR policies and best practice.
  • Manage a wide range of employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, absence, performance, and other complex casework.
  • Support investigations, formal hearings, and complex employee relations cases.
  • Coach and develop managers to build confidence and capability in managing people issues.
  • Identify trends in employee relations cases and recommend improvements to policies, processes, and management practices.
  • Partner with business leaders on workforce planning, organisational design, talent management, performance management, employee engagement, and reward initiatives.
  • Use people data and workforce analytics to provide insight, identify trends, and support business decision-making.
  • Support organisational change initiatives, including restructures, business transformation, and transfers of employment.
  • Contribute to employee engagement initiatives, leadership development, and management training.
  • Promote a positive workplace culture and support the delivery of wider HR projects and initiatives.
  • Analyse HR metrics, including absence, turnover, employee relations trends, and engagement data, to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Support the development of HR reporting and people analytics.

About You

  • Proven experience as an HR Business Partner or HR Generalist within a fast-paced, operational and unionised environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and extensive employee relations experience.
  • Experience supporting organisational change, restructures, or business transformation.
  • Confident coaching and influencing managers at all levels.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills.
  • Commercially aware with the ability to balance strategic thinking and operational delivery.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities in a busy environment.
  • A relevant HR qualification (such as CIPD) or equivalent experience is desirable.
