Our client CalaChem are currently recruiting for a Waste Transfer Station Operator to join their team based in Grangemouth on a contract basis initially. Ideally for this role they are looking for someone with a valid Fork lift licence, previous experience in a hazardous waste transfer station and knowledge of chemical Handling. Purpose

To support the Hazardous waste transfer station / Effluent Treatment Plant team within CalaChem, ensuring 3rd party offloading operations are managed in a timely fashion and materials are correctly stored and processed as required to meet the business needs.

Principle Accountabilities

  • To operate plant and equipment in full compliance with company procedures, ensuring that appropriate safety and environmental guidelines are followed
  • Carries out waste material movements throughout the waste transfer station and ETP area, including, loading / unloading of package waste material, labelling / sampling and storing materials within designated stock areas.
  • Assisting the ETP operation team, when directed to do so with waste bulk tankers loading and unloading.

Specific Duties

  • Unloading, labelling and sampling of packaged waste loads. Confirming quantities and descriptions are correct.
  • Sorting and segregation of materials for either treatment or storage in designated bund areas.
  • Preparing plant batch material for consolidation and processing through the ETP either by bulk or single package transfer direct.
  • Using mobile plant and equipment, (Forklift truck, pumps etc) for the movement and transfer of materials.
  • Preparing waste packaging for re-use or disposal, including washing, palletising, wrapping, banding and applying appropriate waste labelling.
  • To improve and sustain housekeeping standards, ensuring both internal and external areas are maintained in a clean, tidy and safe condition.
  • Contribute ideas for continuous improvement to maximize safety, efficiency and minimize costs.
  • Carry out the weekly and monthly structured monitoring programme, ensuring that appropriate safety and selected plant equipment including fork lift trucks, are in place and operational.
  • Communicate issues to management when appropriate. Clearly communicate to the ETP Operator on an ongoing basis

Decision Making Authority

Decisions on which waste steams to accept and offload will be made by others in advance. However if the material looks different to the specification the operator will have the authority to stop the offloading and defer to the technical manager for advice.

Key Competencies

  • Due to the considerable degree of interactions with external customers the job holder will require to have good interpersonal skills.
  • The HWTS/ETP tanker operator must be self-starting, show a flexible approach and be willing to take on responsibility this will involve working in a responsible and professional manner the person would be expected to have experience working in a similar role within industry. The person would be computer literate and have some knowledge of Windows/Microsoft office operating system and plant performance recording.
  • The HWTS/ETP tanker operator may be required to carry out heavy lifting of containers up to 25Kg and work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

  • A valid Fork lift licence is essential for this role.
  • The individual will receive the appropriate training for the role and needs to ensure they actively keep their training plan up to date
  • Previous experience in a hazardous waste transfer station is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of chemical Handling is advantageous but not essential as training will be provided.
