We’re recruiting on behalf of a leading national business to find an experienced Data Architect who can advise and document the standards needed to implement “Data as a Product” (DAAP). The role will define the technical data architecture and engineering standards for data products built on GCP, BigQuery, and Looker data lake, and guide internal stakeholders and third‑party delivery partners.
Responsibilities:
- Define and document the characteristics of a data mart as a product:
- Discoverable
- Valuable
- Self‑explanatory
- Addressable
- Interoperable
- Accessible/performant
- Secure
- Trustworthy
- Establish standards for:
- BigQuery Layout – naming conventions, key consistency, suffix standards, data set layering, etc.
- Looker Semantic Layer – user view definitions, dimension grouping, aggregation definitions, hidden join management.
- Metadata and Documentation – field description standards for Looker and BigQuery.
- Schema Design – flattened views, deterministic types, order consistency, semantic description, enum constraints.
- Partitioning and clustering.
- Policy tags.
- Star schema design.
- Implement these standards as code and define monitoring mechanisms to ensure adherence across the data engineering supply chain.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience leading data architecture initiatives in an enterprise environment.
- Expertise with GCP, BigQuery, and Looker.
- Strong understanding of data product principles and governance.
- Ability to influence stakeholders and third‑party partners.
