Job Purpose

Provision of plant facing Mechanical Engineering support for plant operations.
Delivery of quality design solutions to improve equipment reliability & performance.
Ensure regulatory compliance by implementing appropriate codes, standards and good engineering practice.

Organisation arrangements or structures which are unique

The multi-disciplined engineering team provides expertise to assess and develop plant modifications of various size and complexity.
The team provides oversight for modifications ensuring solutions are suitable for operation requirements, consistent with the safety case and suitably documented and followed through to implementation & close out.
The team works within a highly regulated environment and therefore must work to strict quality, safety and environmental standards.
The team need to develop an understanding of complex equipment and processes, enlist specialist support as required and turn this understanding into practical design solutions and / or recommendations for the Operating Team.
The plant facing team are required to support the CPO OPEX and CAPEX teams with scope development as required and will act as intelligent customers for project and 3rd party works as required.

Systems, software or tools used

Routine use of Microsoft office, Documentum, SAP and in-house POSEIDON APPs

Decision making responsibilities - examples include:

  • Act as Change manager and Technical Assessor for Plant facing Management of Change.
  • Preparing, reviewing, checking and approval of safety critical documentation
  • Reviewing, checking, approval as well as development of engineering designs
  • Resource management including engagement of third party support
  • Failure investigation and reporting

Internal/External requirements or constraints (for instance compliance to internal/external regulations, laws)

  • Compliance with relevant regulations e.g. Nuclear site licence conditions, COMAH, PSSR, LOLER.
  • Knowledge of engineering standards e.g. ASME B31.3, PD5500

Problems the role may face and their complexity

Align the design and implementation of improvements to outages in a way that maximises benefits and minimises disruption to operation.
Maximise plant throughput and availability by analysing plant operation and implementing improvements.
Use of change management process to support acceptable temporary operating practices

Key internal and external stakeholder relationships and interactions

Internal: Plant Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Reliability and Compliance departments
External: Contractors & Suppliers

Qualifications

Degree in Mechanical Engineering
