I'm currently supporting an engineering consultancy delivering work across a range of high-profile aerospace programmes and looking for an experienced Lead Design Engineer to join their growing team. This is a technical leadership position where you'll take ownership of multiple engineering projects, guiding design activities from early concept stages through to manufacture, certification and in-service support. The role offers the opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of aerospace programmes rather than being tied to a single product line, giving exposure to a broad range of technologies, customers and engineering challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design and development activities across complex aerospace projects.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineering teams.
- Act as the primary technical interface for customers and stakeholders.
- Manage engineering deliverables to programme cost, quality and schedule requirements.
- Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, models and technical documentation.
- Support design reviews, engineering governance and technical decision making.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary activities across design, stress, systems, manufacturing and certification teams.
- Contribute to bids, proposals and future programme growth.
What We're Looking For
- Significant aerospace design engineering experience.
- Previous experience leading engineers and technical work packages.
- Strong understanding of the full engineering lifecycle.
- Experience with CAD tools such as CATIA V5, Siemens NX, Creo or similar.
- Knowledge of configuration control, engineering change processes and design governance.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to lead multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Desirable Experience
- Commercial or military aerospace programmes.
- Airworthiness and certification knowledge.
- Aerospace structures, systems integration or installation design experience.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional registration.
