GKN Aerospace is recruiting for its new composite manufacturing and assembly facility at Western Approach. The facility will manufacture, test and assemble primary aircraft structure components, including A350 and A400M carbon wing spars. We are seeking people with composite material and aerostructures assembly experience to lead, develop and establish the latest technologies in this state of the art manufacturing facility.

Purpose

To measure aircraft components throughout the build process, to ensure parts are conforming to drawing tolerances. Carry out subsequent sub assembly and CNC automated activities, which meet design and engineering requirements.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • A good engineering problem solver.
  • Proficient in the use of CAD software and Metrology software.
  • Ability to use Co-ordinate measuring Machines and Laser trackers.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Window packages - Word, Excel, and PowerPoint etc.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret engineering drawings and CAD.
  • Experience in Geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (G,D&T).
  • Assembly and trimming of components using conventional and advanced methods.
  • Use of laser projector equipment, non destructive test (NDT) machines and jigged assembly techniques.
  • Knowledge of aircraft bonded assemblies.
  • Understanding of aircraft drawings, limits and quality systems.
  • Self motivated and with good communication skills.
  • Able to work in small teams led by Process Team Leaders.
  • Served a recognised apprenticeship or relevant experience in composite or aircraft environment.
  • Embrace lean manufacture, waste reduction and improvement initiatives.
  • Work in accordance with Health & Safety requirements, including relevant risk, COSHH and safe systems of work.
  • Undertake training in advanced composite assembly techniques & processes.
  • First party certification to be allocated following successful completion of relevant training.
  • Able to work shift patterns in line with operational requirements.
  • Apprenticeship or level 3 qualification in a related discipline.

Contract

6 month rolling contract. Rate £23.59 per hour. Weekday overtime £27.65 per hour. Weekend overtime £36.86 per hour. Shift Pattern, average of 40.25 hours per week. Week One: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday 6am - 6pm half hour unpaid lunch. Week Two: Wednesday and Thursday 6am to 6pm half hour unpaid lunch. During training the shift will be standard days at £18.43 per hour.
