We are seeking a Senior Test & Development Engineer to join an engineering team delivering gearbox design projects and associated product engineering activities.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on complex mechanical systems, supporting both product development and operational delivery.

You’ll work closely with the Engineering team, under the direction of the Head of Test & Development Engineering, to ensure that all test and validation activities meet internal, client, and certification standards.

This is a hands‑on role, covering the full lifecycle of test planning, execution, and analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and specify product validation and performance test requirements.
  • Create product validation and performance test plans, specifications, and acceptance criteria.
  • Specify test equipment and instrumentation, oversee data capture, processing, and analysis.
  • Supervise test rig setup and commissioning, including guarding and lubrication/cooling systems.
  • Conduct in‑situ shaft line and coupling balance assessments, noise, and vibration measurements.
  • Provide technical oversight and troubleshooting for test program execution, including client witness testing.
  • Generate and present test reports internally and to clients.
  • Support operational teams during test programs and off‑site service activities.
  • Provide engineering design support for test rig hardware requirements.
  • Assist with project bid proposals and design reviews as required.
  • Maintain detailed test data logs and supporting documentation.
  • Participate in DFMEA, PFMEA, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Candidate Requirements
  • Minimum Diploma (Level 5) with relevant experience; Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of product testing, certification requirements, and test methodologies for rotating equipment.
  • Advanced experience with instrumentation, data capture, vibration measurement, and analysis.
  • Knowledge of drive and control systems (electrical and hydraulic) and equipment calibration.
  • Experience with functional safety and machinery safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with PLM/lifecycle management systems (ideally Teamcenter) and SAP.
  • Experience in relevant industries, e. g., defence, on/off‑highway transmissions, turbo machinery, or other complex mechanical systems.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, ideally with experience in 8D, DMAIC, or similar processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: delivery, influencing, and collaboration.
  • Additional Information
  • This role is subject to security and export control restrictions. Candidates must meet UK Right to Work criteria and achieve the required security clearance.
