Overview
In this role you lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services for infrastructure and MOJ projects, including prisons and secure facilities.
You drive technical leadership on either individual projects or a portfolio of complex schemes, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.
You shape engineering solutions from concept to handover, ensuring quality, compliance, and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities
- Lead design of HVAC, water services, drainage and related mechanical systems
- Prepare and review calculations, specifications, drawings, schedules and reports
- Steer projects from surveying and concept design through construction and handover
- Act as mechanical technical lead or Design Team Lead when needed
- Coordinate with electrical, structural and architectural disciplines
- Conduct technical reviews and design assurance activities
- Develop practical solutions for new-build, refurbishment and upgrades
- Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, British Standards and CDM
- Manage quality, risks, budgets and schedules
- Engage with clients, contractors and stakeholders
- Present proposals and engineering recommendations
- Mentor engineers and technicians
- Contribute to bids and work-winning efforts
- At Principal level, assist with resource planning and people management
- Key requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or related discipline
- Extensive mechanical building-services design experience
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, plant, water services, controls and energy-efficient design
- Experience leading technical delivery in multidisciplinary environments
- Knowledge of Building Regulations, British Standards and CDM requirements
- Experience with design reviews, technical assurance and quality management
- Strong commercial, client and stakeholder-management skills
- Working knowledge of Auto CAD, Revit, BIM platforms and mechanical calculation software
- Incorporated or Chartered status with CIBSE or equivalent
- Principal level: Chartered Engineer status or equivalent, with team leadership and work-winning capability
- Experience in prisons, courts or secure government buildings (advantageous)
