The Role: We are looking for a Junior HR Advisor to join our Group HR team based from our HQ in Salford. As the Junior Advisor you will provide proactive, practical HR support across the business, acting as a trusted first point of contact for managers and employees on day-to-day people matters. The role will support the delivery of consistent, high-quality employee relations advice, contribute to building line manager capability, and support a positive, high-performing culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Employee Relations Expertise
- Manage a varied caseload of low to medium complexity ER matters.
- Support managers to handle people issues confidently and fairly, coaching them through conversations rather than taking ownership away from them.
- Prepare documentation, meeting notes and outcome letters in line with company policy and best practice.
- Escalate cases appropriately to Senior HR Advisors, ER Specialists or HR Business Partners where complexity, risk or seniority requires.
- Participate in ER case reviews, learning sessions and reflective discussions to build capability and consistency.
- Accurately record and maintain all employee relations cases, notes and outcomes.
- Manager Capability & Stakeholder Support
- Build effective working relationships with key stakeholders, acting as a reliable and approachable HR contact.
- Encourage early engagement from managers to prevent issues escalating.
- Support managers to understand their responsibilities in areas such as performance management, conduct, and consultation.
- Attend regular stakeholder catch-ups where appropriate to provide proactive HR support.
- Policy, Process & Best Practice
- Provide guidance on HR policies, procedures and employment law principles, escalating where interpretation or risk is unclear.
- Support consistent application of HR processes across the business.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of HR templates, guidance notes and manager toolkits.
- Support a variety of HR-led projects.
- Collaboration & Team Contribution
- Work closely with and provide support to the senior HR team.
- Share learning, insights and good practice with the wider HR team.
- Support junior colleagues where appropriate and contribute positively to a learning-focused team culture.
- Work effectively with HR Shared Services to ensure smooth processes and operations.
- HR System & Reporting
- Support the production of ER and people metrics.
- Identify and flag data gaps, inaccuracies or recurring themes.
- Comply with data protection and confidentiality requirements when managing employee information.
- Use HR systems and reports to support informed conversations with managers and stakeholders.
- Support with day-to-day use of the HR system, general reporting and HR dashboards.
Experience required
- Previous experience in a senior HR Assistant role.
- Practical experience managing ER cases.
- Good working knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
- Ability to build relationships and influence managers with confidence and credibility.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- CIPD Level 5 qualification highly desirable.
