Job Purpose
We are looking for a Compliance officer to lead and manage all aspects of health, safety, and compliance across our client’s business. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the workplace complies with all H&S regulations and that facilities are maintained to support a safe, efficient, and functional working environment. In addition, you will take the lead on Environmental compliance, and Ethics & integrity audits and inspections.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing and continually reviewing company H&S policies and procedures to mitigate accidents and reporting mechanisms, ensuring full compliance with UK legislation and HSE best practice.
- Produce and maintain up-to-date H&S documentation including risk assessments, training logs, and accident reports.
- Ensure timely investigation of accidents, incidents, and safety observations, tracking all corrective actions to completion.
- Facilitate H&S training – equipping staff with adequate training and access to resources.
- Working closely with departmental managers and staff to ensure health and safety measures are practical and understood.
- Organise testing of equipment to ensure it's safe to use.
- On-boarding new staff with H&S training as a mandatory part of the new joiner on-boarding process.
- Develop and implement a standardised Environmental Plan and Environmental Management System, aligned with ISO 14001.
- Conduct environmental assessment.
- Draft environmental procedures & policies.
- Develop, implement & monitor Waste Management Plan.
- Conduct environmental awareness training to educate employees to protect the environment by proper waste disposal and follow good practices.
- Develop procedure for safe handling & storage of hazardous products.
- Prepare, manage and maintain document systems for external customer ethics and integrity audits.
Required Skills
- Strong background in Health, Safety Management Systems and compliance.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment with practical knowledge of safe working practices.
- Environmental, Health and Safety, Quality experience or qualifications – NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Desired Skills
- Membership of IOSH (TechIOSH or higher).
- Experience with ISO standards or external audit preparation.
