Responsibilities
- Lead and coach a team of software engineers, offering mentoring and technical guidance
- Foster a high-performing engineering culture focused on quality and continuous improvement
- Collaborate with Product and technology stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions
- Contribute to engineering strategy, technical decision-making and long-term plans
- Support recruitment and growth of the engineering team
- Champion software development practices and raise engineering standards
- Ensure teams have processes and support to deliver reliable, maintainable software
- Identify opportunities to improve development efficiency and productivity
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership
- Promote pragmatic problem-solving and continual improvement of the technology estate
Key requirements
- Several years of experience managing software engineering teams
- Strong technical background in software development before moving into leadership
- Experience leading teams through growth and organizational change
- Solid understanding of modern software engineering principles
- Experience working on complex, customer-facing digital products
- Ability to understand technical challenges and make sound engineering decisions
- Proven coaching, mentoring and people development skills
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication abilities
- Commercially aware approach balancing technical quality with delivery and business objectives
