Overview
In this role you design and deliver electrical building-services solutions for infrastructure projects, including secure facilities for the Ministry of Justice.
You will work within a multidisciplinary team to produce robust, compliant designs while meeting quality, cost and time targets.
You’ll lead or support projects from survey through handover, coordinating with other disciplines and stakeholders.

Responsibilities
- Produce technically sound electrical building-services designs aligned with client needs and standards
- Design and coordinate systems: power distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarms, security, standby power
- Prepare and check calculations, drawings, specs, reports and documentation
- Lead or support projects from concept design to construction, commissioning and handover
- Coordinate electrical designs with ME, structural, architectural disciplines
- Undertake site visits, surveys and technical assessments
- Develop practical, compliant solutions for existing and new facilities
- Identify design hazards and implement appropriate risk controls
- Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, British Standards, CDM and related guidance
- Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
- Manage design quality, technical assurance and programme performance across schemes
- Support delivery against budgets and commercial objectives
- Contribute to bids, proposals and business development
- Share knowledge and mentor junior engineers
- Key requirements
- Degree, HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or related discipline
- Substantial experience designing electrical building-services systems
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering theory and practical application
- Experience producing and checking electrical calculations, specifications, drawings and reports
- Knowledge of power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, security systems
- Detailed knowledge of Building Regulations, British Standards and electrical design guidance
- Experience in multidisciplinary design and project teams
- Understanding of CDM Regulations, design risk management and health and safety
- Experience using electrical design, modelling and calculation software
- Working knowledge of Auto CAD, Revit and BIM-led design processes
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills
- Commercial awareness and understanding of budgets, programmes and delivery
