PMO Finance Analyst
Location:South Manchester
Contract: Initial 3 months
Working Pattern: Hybrid – approximately 2 days per week on-site
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Start Date: ASAP
The Opportunity
Morson Edge Finance is recruiting exclusively for an experienced PMO Finance Analyst / IT Finance Analyst (CapEx) to join a large, complex organisation on an initial 3 month contract.
Working within the Technology Project Management Office (PMO), you will support the financial management and reporting of a substantial portfolio of IT capital projects. The role combines financial analysis, forecasting, reconciliations and project cost management with regular engagement across Finance and operational project teams.
This is a hands‑on position requiring strong accounting fundamentals, advanced Excel skills and the confidence to investigate financial discrepancies and challenge project expenditure. The successful candidate will need to be comfortable working with manual reporting processes and managing large volumes of financial information.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain monthly cash flow forecasts across multiple IT projects, monitoring expenditure against budgets and identifying variances.
- Analyse project financial information, investigate discrepancies and challenge unexpected transactions, journals and cost allocations.
- Support month-end activities, including accruals, financial reconciliations and project expenditure reporting.
- Reconcile resource timesheets, project codes and staff cost allocations, working closely with Finance Business Partners.
- Ensure financial information is accurate and appropriately allocated, supporting the capitalisation of eligible project costs.
- Produce financial reports, KPI analysis and management information, highlighting risks, trends and recommended corrective actions.
- Work closely with Project Managers, providing guidance on financial forecasts, budgets and project expenditure.
- Support financial controls, audit requirements and the resolution of finance-related queries.
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting accuracy and efficiency while working within established financial processes.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a financial analytical role, ideally within Finance Analysis, Project Finance or a similar environment.
- Strong accounting knowledge, including accruals, debits and credits, journals, GL coding, budgets, CapEx and OpEx.
- Advanced Excel skills, including LOOKUPs, pivot tables and formulas.
- Experience using a large ERP or financial management system.
- Strong financial reconciliation, analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to investigate and challenge discrepancies.
- Experience supporting cash flow forecasting, month-end reporting and financial controls.
- Ability to analyse large datasets and translate financial information into clear, meaningful reporting.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the confidence to explain financial information to non-finance colleagues.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to quickly understand established processes and contribute effectively from the outset.
Desirable Experience
- SAP experience, particularly relating to financial reporting, timesheets and reconciliations.
- Power Query and/or Power BI.
- Previous experience within a PMO, project finance or IT capital expenditure environment.
- Understanding of labour cost capitalisation and project cost allocations.
- Exposure to Project Portfolio Management (PPM) systems.
- Experience improving or automating Excel-based financial reporting.
Additional Information
This is not a traditional Finance Analyst position. Approximately 50% of the role involves financial and accounting activities, with the remainder focused on project administration, data management, reconciliations and stakeholder coordination.
The successful candidate must therefore be comfortable with detailed, hands‑on financial work and working within established processes.
The position offers an opportunity to work within a sizeable technology investment portfolio, engaging with a broad range of stakeholders and supporting the financial control of multiple projects.
Due to the anticipated volume of applications, we regret that we are unable to respond individually to every applicant. Applications will be reviewed against the essential criteria outlined above, and only those candidates that meet the criteria will be contacted.
