My client is a well-established business based near Salford, Manchester. The business has ambitious growth plans over the next five years and is now looking to strengthen its finance function with an experienced Accountant / Finance Manager. Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, this is a hands-on role with responsibility for key financial control and reporting processes. You will also work closely with the senior finance team to develop a more commercially focused finance function.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant who enjoys working closely with the wider business and wants genuine scope to improve systems, reporting and processes. This role suits a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) who enjoys working closely with operations, influencing decisions, and providing meaningful financial insight.

You will take ownership of the month-end close process, management accounts, cash flow forecasting and key financial controls. You will also play an important role in improving management information, payroll processes, working capital management and financial reporting as the business continues to grow. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take on additional responsibility and play a key role in shaping the finance function over the coming years.

Key Responsibilities of the Accountant:

  • Month-end close and management accounts.
  • Journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Cash flow forecasting and working capital management.
  • Oversight of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
  • Weekly payroll processing, payroll journals and reconciliations.
  • Budgeting and forecasting.
  • Management reporting and KPI development.
  • Financial analysis and commercial support.
  • Improving finance processes, systems and controls.

About You

You will be ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified with strong management accounting experience. You will ideally have:

  • Strong month-end and management accounts experience.
  • Cash flow forecasting and working capital experience.
  • Good knowledge of AP, AR and payroll accounting.
  • Excellent Excel and financial analysis skills.
  • A commercially minded approach.
  • Strong communication skills with finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • A proactive approach to improving processes and reporting.
  • Experience within construction, drainage, engineering or contracting would be advantageous but is not essential.
