Overview
In this role you will oversee the onshore export cable packages, ensuring design, manufacture, transport, installation and testing meet safety, schedule and budget targets. You will work within the Onshore Works Department to support SPR projects and deliver robust technical solutions. The position focuses on large-scale cable installations, risk management and liaison with multiple interfaces to enable efficient delivery. This is a hands-on role with a clear impact on project safety, quality and performance. You will be part of a team delivering critical offshore-to-onshore export cable systems that support the company’s renewable energy pipeline.
Responsibilities
- Perform project engineering duties per the work package plan, including studies and management of consultant engineers
- Develop technical specifications, review tender submissions and assess bids
- Manage contractor engineering deliverables and act as resident engineer at manufacturing sites or construction sites
- Support the Function Manager and participate in department initiatives
- Contribute to pre-FID activities: project engineering plan, Cable System Risk Management Plan, ITT documentation, bid evaluation and contractor recommendations
- Coordinate interface tasks to align with the Interface Management Plan
- Assist the consenting team with conditions and contribute to the project Quality Plan and specifications
- Undertake project management duties for the Package Manager and monitor contractor design reports and documents
- Provide progress reports highlighting risks and blockers; manage interfaces with offshore installation and TJB works
- Review Contractor quality management plans, ensure installation works comply with specs, and identify installation risks
- Support as-built reporting and handover to O&M
Key requirements
- Specific onshore cable installation experience in renewables
- Proven ability to work in a team with strong engineering controls for large projects
- Knowledge of construction health and safety requirements
- Computer literacy with Microsoft applications
- Self-motivated with good organizational and planning skills
- English speaking
- Excellent project engineering, interpersonal and communication skills
- In-depth knowledge of standards for installation, design, manufacture and testing of onshore power cables
- Knowledge of cable burial techniques and electrical safety for jointing/termination
- Understanding of quality management systems for cable projects
- Awareness of geotechnical and geophysical survey techniques
