Overview

In this Legal Counsel role you will provide commercially focused legal support for major CCS development, regulated operations, and energy transition projects in the UK. You will partner with internal teams, regulators, and external advisers to manage complex agreements, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution. You’ll help shape governance, risk management, and information handling for high-value infrastructure and transactional work. This is a chance to contribute to the UK’s lower-carbon transition through impactful, cross-functional legal work.

Responsibilities

  • Provide commercially minded legal advice across a diverse portfolio of projects and activities
  • Draft, review and negotiate complex commercial and project agreements
  • Collaborate with project, engineering, finance, commercial and operations teams
  • Support major infrastructure, financing, investment and transactional activities
  • Advise on regulatory and compliance requirements affecting CCS operations
  • Engage with external counsel, regulators, contractors, partners and stakeholders
  • Support dispute resolution as needed
  • Contribute to legal governance, risk management and information management
  • Ensure legal activities align with internal policies and professional standards

Key requirements

  • Law degree with strong academic results
  • Qualification as a Solicitor, Barrister or equivalent
  • Experience in UKCS oil & gas, CCS, renewable energy development or major infrastructure projects
  • Strong knowledge of commercial, regulatory, energy and environmental law
  • Experience drafting and negotiating complex agreements
  • Strong analytical, drafting and negotiation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work with stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong commercial judgement and pragmatic legal advice
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Fluent English
  • Energy transition/decarbonisation sector experience beneficial
  • Knowledge of an additional language beneficial
