Overview
As an Electrical Engineer for rail systems, you provide expert electrical engineering support across rail products and rolling stock. You will collaborate with production, quality, procurement, and suppliers to resolve technical issues and ensure safety, reliability, and performance. The role combines hands-on problem solving with design, testing, and documentation, including on-site support and cross-functional interaction. This position offers involvement across the complete engineering lifecycle in a technically diverse rail environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide electrical engineering expertise across rail products and systems
- Offer on-site technical support for production, projects, quality and procurement issues
- Investigate and resolve production and technical queries; support inspections and investigations
- Support specification, design, testing, maintenance and failure investigations of electrical systems/components
- Create and update electrical schematics, drawings and technical documentation
- Raise and manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and support implementation
- Produce technical reports, test plans, supplier specifications and overhaul specifications
- Investigate failures to identify root cause and corrective actions
- Provide risk evaluation and mitigation evidence related to product safety hazards
- Act as UK technical interface with international teams, suppliers, and third parties
- Collaborate with production to provide practical engineering solutions for shop-floor issues
- Ensure engineering activities are delivered on time and correctly
- Occasionally visit customer and supplier sites for projects and product performance activities
- Contribute to continuous improvement, quality initiatives and site safety programs
Key requirements
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in an electrical engineering environment
- Experience with specification, design, testing, maintenance and failure investigation of electrical systems/components
- Good knowledge of rail vehicles/rolling stock systems
- Experience providing technical engineering support within a production/manufacturing environment
- Experience using Electrical CAD systems
- Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and standard engineering tools
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
