We are currently recruiting for an Area Sales Manager to take responsibility for driving sales growth and developing customer relationships across Scotland and the Cumbria region. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven sales professional who enjoys being out in the field, developing new business and building long-term relationships with customers and distribution partners.
The Role
As Area Sales Manager, you will take ownership of sales and margin performance across your territory. You will proactively identify and develop new business opportunities while strengthening relationships with existing customers and distribution partners.
You will be responsible for:
- Achieving and exceeding sales, margin and territory targets.
- Identifying, qualifying, developing and closing new sales opportunities.
- Growing the customer base through proactive prospecting and business development.
- Developing both direct/OEM customers and distribution opportunities.
- Building strong, long-term relationships with customers and understanding their needs.
- Managing enquiries and opportunities through to profitable sales.
- Providing a high level of customer service and ensuring enquiries, quotations and customer issues are followed up promptly.
- Developing a strong sales pipeline and contributing to territory forecasts and budgets.
- Working collaboratively with internal and external sales colleagues and senior commercial stakeholders.
- Planning and targeting your territory effectively, using a proactive and commercially focused approach.
About You
We are looking for a self-motivated and commercially focused sales professional with a proven track record of delivering sales growth and developing profitable customer relationships. You will ideally have:
- Proven successful experience in a sales role, preferably within an international business.
- A strong track record of sales growth and improving margins.
- A drive to identify and win new business.
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Good technical aptitude, including the ability to understand product drawings and different materials.
- Strong organisational, analytical and project management skills.
- The initiative and strategic thinking to manage your own territory effectively.
- Experience within power transmission, chain drives or conveyors would be advantageous.
- A sales-related or technical qualification would be beneficial.
What the Role Involves
This is a highly field-based position, with an expectation of approximately four days per week spent with customers and around 35–40 customer visits per month. Your time will be split approximately equally between developing distribution business and identifying new direct/OEM customer opportunities. The role will require regular travel across the territory, including occasional overnight stays.
You will work as part of a wider UK commercial team, collaborating with colleagues across sales and the wider business to maximise opportunities and deliver sustainable growth. If you are an ambitious, proactive sales professional who enjoys winning new business, developing customer relationships and taking ownership of a territory, this could be an excellent opportunity to take your next career step.
