Overview
In this Design Manager role, you will oversee design development across multiple sites in the South Wales and South West region. You will lead design coordination with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to deliver compliant, buildable designs. You’ll apply CDM 2015 principles, manage design risk, and drive the design programme while ensuring quality and safety across projects. The role offers exposure to high-profile education, healthcare, and urban living schemes within a contractor known for innovative, whole-life solutions.

Responsibilities
- Manage client, subcontractor, project and design team relationships to develop and deliver designs on a project or bid.
- Lead the design process in accordance with the Building Management System.
- Apply and monitor CDM 2015 compliance and safety in design.
- Identify and mitigate design risk and realize opportunities through all stages of a bid or project.
- Assist in selecting designers and ensure competency checks are undertaken.
- Develop and agree scope and responsibilities for consultants and manage the project fee schedule.
- Develop the design programme with the Planner; manage information release schedules and monitor design deliverables.
- Manage statutory and 3rd party processes (Planning, Building Control, BREEAM).
- Conduct site inspections to verify the as-built meets design criteria.
Key requirements
- CDM 2015 knowledge and experience.
- Awareness of Health & Safety responsibilities and company policies.
- Ability to read and interpret design and construction programmes.
- Understanding of buildability and ability to challenge designs that do not meet sequencing or construction methodology.

- Ability to develop ideas and present concisely.
