Are you an experienced Electrical or Mechanical Technician looking for your next challenge in the rail industry? We are recruiting on behalf of a leading rolling stock client for a Corrective Technician to join their team in Chester on a 6-month fixed-term contract, working day shifts on a brand-new, state-of-the-art fleet of trains. This is an excellent opportunity to work with cutting-edge rail technology, carrying out fault diagnosis, root cause analysis, and corrective maintenance in a modern depot environment. Youll play a key role in ensuring the reliability and performance of one of the UKs newest train fleets while working alongside a highly skilled engineering team.

The Role

As a Corrective Technician, you will be responsible for diagnosing, investigating, and rectifying electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults across a new fleet of rolling stock. Using electrical schematics, specialist diagnostic software, and test equipment, you will identify root causes and carry out high-quality corrective repairs in line with safety and warranty standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out fault finding, diagnosis, and root cause analysis on electrical and electronic train systems.
  • Interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics to identify faults efficiently.
  • Perform corrective maintenance and component replacement within a depot environment.
  • Use specialist diagnostic software and electrical test equipment to investigate train failures.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures and quality standards.
  • Record maintenance activities accurately using electronic maintenance management systems.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering teams to improve fleet reliability and performance.

Systems You Will Be Working On

  • Traction Control and Braking Systems
  • Passenger Information Systems (PIS), Public Address (PA), and CCTV
  • Passenger Access Door Systems
  • HVAC (Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning)
  • Auxiliary Electrical Equipment
  • Diesel Engines and Generator Sets
  • High-Pressure Hydraulic Systems (up to 300 bar)
  • High-Pressure Pneumatic Systems (up to 12 bar)
  • Complex Cab Control Systems, including GPS positioning and On-Track Safety Systems
  • Electrical wiring and integration of circuit breakers, relays, transformers, insulators, cabinets, motors, and associated electrical components

What Were Looking For

Essential

  • Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 3 years post-apprenticeship engineering experience.
  • Proven experience in fault finding and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematic diagrams.
  • Experience using diagnostic software and electrical testing/measuring equipment.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

  • HNC (or equivalent) in an Engineering discipline.
  • Previous experience working within rolling stock, rail, automotive, aerospace, heavy engineering, or another safety-critical environment.
