Overview
In this role you will design high-integrity pipework components and systems for nuclear facilities, aligning with stringent safety and regulatory standards. You will contribute to both nuclear and conventional piping solutions for the Rolls-Royce SMR project, ensuring constructible, compliant designs. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to balance complex requirements and deliver robust substantiation and specifications. This is a hands-on engineering role that emphasizes safety, quality, and practical execution in a dynamic, collaborative environment. You will shape piping solutions that meet project and regulatory expectations while supporting design reviews and audits.
Responsibilities
- Design pipework components in line with EN 13480, ASME III NB, NCD, ASME B31.1, RCC-M, PED and ONR requirements
- Balance complex requirements to deliver integrated technical solutions meeting maturity, programme, and governance
- Produce design substantiation reports, technical specifications, and design justifications
- Review drawings, isometrics, and general arrangements against design codes
- Apply optioneering and systems engineering to meet product requirements
- Collaborate with fabrication, QA/QC, and site installation teams early in design to ensure feasibility and downstream execution
- Support design reviews, DFMEA, PFMEA, and ALARP assessments
- Demonstrate practical knowledge from field experience to inform design decisions and construction methodologies
- Resolve technical queries and participate in audits and inspections with regulators or customers
- Support procurement and supplier design submissions throughout the lifecycle
Key requirements
- Familiarity with nuclear safety standards, design assurance, and regulatory frameworks
- Experience across full project lifecycle: concept and detailed design, routing and layout, fabrication and installation support
- Understanding of nuclear supply chain, including procurement, material traceability, and QA
- Ability to interpret requirements and manage ambiguity with the Pipework Manager
- Proven collaboration with internal and external stakeholders across design, fabrication, and site teams
- Strong technical judgment to ensure designs are compliant, constructible and maintainable
