Morson Edge is pleased to be supporting our client in seeking an experienced Training & Competency Advisor to oversee training and competence programmes across operational sites. This role is responsible for ensuring training frameworks, competency standards and compliance processes meet legislative requirements while supporting the ongoing development of a skilled and competent workforce.

Working closely with operational teams, HR and external providers, you will play a key role in maintaining robust training systems, coordinating assessments and driving continuous improvement in competence assurance. This is a contract opportunity for 2 years.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage training and competency frameworks across multiple operational locations.
  • Maintain competency registers, job profiles and training records within the Learning and Competency Management System.
  • Coordinate competency assessments for safety-critical, operational and technical roles.
  • Support assessors and verifiers to ensure consistent competence standards across the business.
  • Develop, review and maintain training standards, procedures and competency frameworks in line with legislation and industry best practice.
  • Deliver guidance and training on new processes, ensuring effective implementation across operational teams.
  • Monitor training compliance, produce management reports and track key performance indicators.
  • Coordinate emergency response and emergency management competency programmes.
  • Develop and oversee annual assurance programmes for training and competence activities.
  • Manage external training providers and oversee mandatory training bookings and approvals.
  • Support apprentice development by integrating new employees into competency and assessment programmes.
  • Contribute to workforce competence planning by identifying current and future training needs.
  • Support internal and external audits relating to training and competency compliance.
  • Prepare and monitor training budgets.
  • Maintain accurate training records for employees and contractors.
  • Provide ongoing support for learning management systems and competency databases.
  • Represent the business at relevant industry forums and working groups.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Previous experience in a Training & Competency, Learning & Development or Competency Assurance role within a safety-critical industry.
  • A strong understanding of training and competency legislation, compliance requirements and assurance processes.
  • Experience managing competency management or learning management systems.
  • Excellent planning, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels.
  • Experience supporting audits and maintaining training compliance records.
  • A background in production operations, engineering or a similar operational environment is desirable.
  • A relevant higher education qualification or professional certification is desirable.
