Morson Edge are working with a leading building controls and engineering organisation to recruit an experienced BMS Commissioning Engineer for a 9-month contract based in Cardiff.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced BMS professional with strong hands‑on commissioning and project delivery experience. You will be responsible for managing the technical and commissioning aspects of BMS projects throughout the project lifecycle, working closely with clients, panel manufacturers, electrical installers and engineering teams to ensure systems are delivered to specification and successfully handed over.
The Opportunity
As a BMS Commissioning Engineer, you will manage the full lifecycle of BMS projects, ensuring all technical and commissioning activities are delivered on time, within scope and to the required standards.
You will act as a key point of contact for clients, oversee system configuration and commissioning, coordinate site activities and ensure successful project delivery and handover.
The role will involve working with live electrical and control systems and requires someone who can lead commissioning activities while managing multiple stakeholders and project constraints.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end BMS project lifecycle, ensuring technical and commissioning activities are delivered on time and within scope.
- Develop, maintain and update project schedules, tracking progress against key milestones.
- Produce, manage and submit project documentation, ensuring compliance and client approval.
- Act as the primary client interface, managing expectations, resolving issues and maintaining strong relationships.
- Coordinate with panel manufacturers, electrical installers and engineering teams to implement BMS solutions in line with project specifications.
- Configure and/or oversee BMS software strategies to meet operational and performance requirements.
- Lead and support BMS commissioning activities, ensuring systems are fully functional and meet design intent.
- Conduct system demonstrations and coordinate successful project handover.
- Prepare and manage handover documentation.
- Lead commissioning activities on site and coordinate multiple stakeholders.
- Ensure projects are delivered within agreed timescales and project constraints.
What You’ll Need
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a BMS Commissioning Engineer.
- Proven delivery of at least 5 commissioning projects, including major or complex projects.
- Strong hands‑on commissioning and project delivery experience.
- Experience working with live electrical and control systems.
- Advanced knowledge of HVAC and BMS fundamentals.
- Strong knowledge of BMS commissioning standards across the UK and Ireland.
- Experience with BMS software platforms such as Trend, Schneider, Tridium, Johnson Controls Metasys or similar.
- Strong understanding of design and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of networking protocols and IT infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of control systems, integration and mechanical principles.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated leadership in commissioning and site coordination.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and deliver under project constraints.
- Proven ability to lead commissioning activities through to successful completion.
Qualifications & Certifications
- ECS / CSCS Card or equivalent.
- SMSTS / SSSTS.
- SIS Modbus Certification is preferred.
Working Pattern
- Cardiff-based.
- 9-month contract.
- 40 hours per week.
- Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm.
- Extended hours and weekend working may be required depending on project requirements.
- Outside IR35.
