Overview
In this role, you will lead the design management on complex construction projects, coordinating multidisciplinary teams to align design with programme, budget, and quality targets. You will engage clients and stakeholders to ensure design deliverables meet compliance and buildability standards. This position supports project delivery within a major contractor environment in the South West England and South Wales, offering influencing opportunities across commercial, planning, and operations. You will contribute to a high-impact delivery culture through proactive risk and issue management.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate architects, consultants, subcontractors and internal delivery teams
- Ensure design information aligns with project programmes
- Identify and manage design risks and technical issues
- Review design deliverables for quality, buildability and compliance
- Collaborate with commercial, planning and operational teams to support project delivery
- Maintain effective communication with clients and key stakeholders
Key requirements
- Proven experience as a Design Manager with a Tier 1 or major main contractor
- Experience delivering complex construction projects in defence, justice, healthcare, education or commercial (preferable MoJ/MoD experience)
- Strong understanding of design management processes, construction methodologies and current Building Regulations
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Relevant construction qualification (HNC/HND, degree or equivalent) is preferred
- BPSS Clearance will be required (eligible)
