Overview
As a Senior Architect on a major rail infrastructure programme, you shape architectural quality on client-side teams across complex projects. You will collaborate with Lead Architect, engineers, contractors and consultants to safeguard design intent from detailed design through construction. Your expertise will ensure architectural vision and technical requirements are consistently delivered at scale. This role offers influence over high-profile assets and the opportunity to impact long-term infrastructure quality.
Responsibilities
- Provide architectural design assurance and support project delivery with the Lead Architect
- Offer specialist architectural guidance to the client and delivery partners
- Review design deliverables against specifications and standards
- Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to resolve interfaces
- Support procurement through technical scope development and tender assessment
- Manage architectural RFIs and assist in planning submissions and condition closures
- Contribute to Independent Design Review Panel preparations and respond to recommendations
- Coordinate architecture with civil, landscape, rail systems, environment, planning and construction disciplines
- Engage with Design & Build contractors through detailed design and construction to meet project requirements
- Support design approvals and technical sign-offs
- Maintain architectural design consistency across delivery units and contracts
- Identify and manage design risks and opportunities
- Embed safety into design and delivery decisions
- Champion the programme’s Design Vision throughout the project lifecycle
Key requirements
- ARB registration and/or RIBA membership
- Significant experience as an architect in multidisciplinary design and delivery environments
- Experience on major infrastructure, transportation, rail or complex projects
- Strong understanding of architectural design development and technical delivery
- Experience working with contractors, consultants and engineering teams
- Knowledge of relevant architectural and engineering standards
- Ability to interpret technical requirements within a transportation or railway environment
- Experience managing multiple workstreams and tight deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Confidence presenting to senior stakeholders and multidisciplinary audiences
- Experience developing and delivering work packages
