Morson Talent are currently recruiting for a CAD Specialist to work on behalf of one of our prestigious clients based out of Heathrow. This is a contract role for 6 months, with the possibility of extension.
Role Overview
The BIM / CAD Specialist will be responsible for designing new products and updating existing designs using advanced CAD and BIM applications, with a strong emphasis on 3D modelling and Revit, in line with Heathrow Airport's strict BIM standards. The role supports NEC projects across the Heathrow portfolio, ensuring drawings, models, and documentation meet evolving airport BIM requirements. You will work closely with engineering teams to support timely project delivery, provide creative design solutions, and manage updates across fire detection, BMS, and automation system documentation. This position requires a high degree of independence, problem-solving ability, and cross-functional collaboration. While primarily based in the office near Heathrow (Longford), the position is hybrid due to the niche skillset required.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and update BIM compliant CAD drawings and Revit models for Heathrow Airport projects.
- Develop new product designs and improve existing ones using CAD tools.
- Create and maintain wiring diagrams, schematics, layouts, and fire detection device placements.
- Ensure all design work complies with Heathrow's 3D modelling and BIM governance requirements.
- Upload and maintain latest design details and revisions within BIM environments.
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to ensure smooth and timely project delivery.
- Evaluate products, parts, or processes for cost efficiency, constructability, and reliability.
- Manage multiple tasks simultaneously with high degrees of accuracy and autonomy.
- Potentially lead or guide the work of junior team members or external resources.
- Participate in NEC project meetings and coordinate design updates as required.
Essential Requirements
- Strong BIM capability — this is the defining requirement.
- Expert proficiency in Revit.
- Demonstrable experience with CAD, including 2D and 3D model production.
- Ability to work with BIM models that form part of a wider site-wide digital model.
- Experience producing or updating wiring documents, device layouts, and engineering schematics.
- Proven experience in design roles using BIM/CAD tools.
- Strong understanding of design processes, engineering standards, and multi-disciplinary coordination.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within engineering teams.
- High degree of judgement and creativity in design tasks.
Industry / Domain Experience
- Experience in the following sectors is beneficial but not mandatory:
- Fire detection systems
- BMS / automation systems
- Wider building services or MEP engineering environments (According to the transcript, industry-specific experience is not essential provided BIM/Revit skills are strong.)
Location & Working Pattern
- Based near Heathrow Airport (Longford office, landside access).
- Likely 2–3 days per week on site depending on project demands.
- Standard daytime hours (approx. 9:00–17:00 / 8:00–17:00).
- Minimal to no night work expected.
Additional Notes
Heathrow CAD work has recently shifted significantly from 2D to strict 3D BIM modelling, so a high level of BIM fluency is essential.
