About the Role
We are seeking a BESS Engineering Manager to serve as the technical lead for our rapidly expanding utility-scale battery storage portfolio. With a current footprint of 650MW and an aggressive roadmap to 1GW+, this role is designed for a technical expert who thrives on the full lifecycle of complex energy assets. You will act as the internal technical referent for the business, bridging the gap between design, procurement, and operations. You will move beyond purely grid-side tasks, taking ownership of the technical integrity of our BESS assets from the initial tender and technology selection through to commissioning and long-term performance monitoring.
What You'll Be Doing
- Technical Strategy & Tendering: Lead technology selection and market scanning. Evaluate different BESS architectures and balance the trade-offs in performance, CAPEX, and OPEX. Draft robust Employer's Requirements for EPC and supply contracts.
- Design & Architecture: Oversee system design, ensuring adherence to the three pillars of BESS: Power Electronics (Inverters), Software (BMS/EMS/SCADA), and Battery/Chemical technology.
- Project Execution: Manage technical discussions with Owner's Engineers and act as the primary technical point of contact for contractors during construction.
- Lifecycle Management: Define commissioning criteria and establish the technical requirements that will dictate our long-term O&M strategy.
- Operational Support: As assets come online, act as the go-to technical expert for performance monitoring, RCA (Root Cause Analysis), and troubleshooting to ensure optimal asset health.
- International Portfolio Growth: Serve as the technical lead for new acquisitions across our broader European pipeline.
What You'll Need
- Experience: 3 years of dedicated, utility-scale BESS experience. Note: We are specifically seeking experience from a BESS integrator or manufacturer background.
- Technical Foundation: Deep understanding of BESS system architecture (PCS, BMS, EMS, LV systems, and auxiliaries). Strong grasp of design standards and H&S best practices in a BESS context. Knowledge of grid-connection requirements and route-to-market considerations.
- Soft Skills: Ability to write clear technical requirements and manage external consultants (Owner's Engineers). You are a hands-on engineer who enjoys getting into the detail of the technology while maintaining a commercial mindset.
- Education: Degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred) or a related technical discipline.
Why Join Us?
- Ambitious Scale: Join a team targeting 1GW+ in the near term with the backing of a global infrastructure leader.
- Impact: This is a high-visibility, entrepreneurial role where your technical decisions will directly influence the bankability and long-term performance of our assets.
- Progression: As we scale our portfolio, this role is expected to evolve into a broader technical management/leadership position.
