About the Opportunity

We are working with a leading London Market insurer to recruit an experienced Tax Manager to join their finance team on a permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of a standalone tax function, reporting directly to the Financial Controller. You'll be responsible for overseeing tax compliance, governance and reporting, whilst managing relationships with external advisors and supporting senior stakeholders across the business.

With much of the tax compliance outsourced, the focus of this role is on oversight, governance, stakeholder management and driving continuous improvement, making it ideal for someone looking for a broad and commercially focused tax position.

The Role

Working closely with the Financial Controller, Group Tax and external advisors, you'll lead all tax-related activities across the business, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements while supporting wider finance projects and maintaining a robust tax controls framework.

  • Managing all tax compliance and tax accounting activities across the business.
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for all tax-related matters.
  • Managing relationships with external tax advisors, including EY and BDO, ensuring timely delivery of outsourced tax work.
  • Reviewing corporation tax computations and other tax returns prepared externally.
  • Preparing and submitting quarterly VAT returns in-house.
  • Ensuring compliance with HMRC, Lloyd's and all relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Partnering with the Group Tax function on tax provisioning, US tax reporting and wider tax projects.
  • Maintaining and developing the company's tax governance framework, controls and risk register.
  • Supporting finance transformation initiatives, including General Ledger migration and process improvements.
  • Managing tax-related projects and business risk reviews.
  • Providing tax support during internal and external audits.
  • Building strong working relationships across Finance and the wider business.
  • Advising senior stakeholders on tax matters and supporting strategic decision-making.

About You

We're looking for a qualified tax professional with experience in tax accounting and compliance within the London Insurance Market. You will ideally have:

  • CTA qualified (or equivalent).
  • Experience within the London Insurance Market (Lloyd's experience highly desirable).
  • Strong knowledge of UK corporation tax and VAT.
  • Experience managing external tax advisors.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • A proactive and commercially minded approach.
  • Practice and industry backgrounds will both be considered.

What's on Offer?

  • Permanent opportunity within a leading London Market insurer.
  • Hybrid working.
  • £90,000 - £120,000 salary.
  • 25% target annual bonus.
  • Standalone role with genuine ownership.
  • High levels of senior stakeholder exposure.
  • Opportunity to work on strategic projects and finance transformation.

If you're looking for a broad Tax Manager role offering autonomy, senior stakeholder exposure and the opportunity to make a real impact, we'd love to hear from you.
