Summary
We are seeking a skilled Design Engineer to join a dynamic technical team responsible for delivering innovative and practical design solutions for civil infrastructure, roads, sewers, and groundwork packages across multiple housing development sites in the region. Reporting to the Technical Director, you will play a key role in producing hands-on designs, managing legal agreements, and supporting site teams with technical queries. The role offers a varied workload with a focus on sustainability, value engineering, and compliance with evolving building and environmental legislation. This position suits an individual with a strong engineering background, ideally with experience in civil or structural design environments, who is comfortable liaising with external authorities and working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Procure and review service records and enquiries for new developments
- Undertake in-house design of roads, sewers, and infrastructure for residential estates
- Prepare groundwork design packs for tender and construction stages
- Conduct drainage, foundation, and level appraisals to support land acquisition bids
- Secure and manage legal agreements (S38, S104, S185, S278) aligned with development programmes
- Coordinate with structural engineers for foundation and superstructure design inputs
- Evaluate consultant designs to ensure adherence to value engineering and best practice
- Liaise with technical teams and external bodies to discharge building regulations and planning conditions
- Provide technical support to site engineers and managers, resolving on-site queries
Skills
- HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline
- Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience in civil or structural design environments
- Proven ability to negotiate confidently with sewerage undertakers, highway authorities, and other external bodies
- Strong coordination skills to manage multidisciplinary design teams and meet programme deadlines
- Computer literate with proficiency in design software
- Experience with drainage and infrastructure design for housing developments
- Knowledge of legal agreements related to highways and sewers (S38, S104, S185, S278)
