We are currently seeking an experienced Building Services Engineer to join our client on an initial 3–6 month contract. This is an exciting opportunity to support a complex and technically challenging engineering programme, contributing to the development and optimisation of building services layouts within a highly regulated environment.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will provide specialist expertise in building services integration, HVAC systems, pipework routing, installation methodologies, and modularisation strategies. The role offers a flexible hybrid working arrangement, with just one day per week required in the office from either Warrington, Manchester or Derby.
Key Responsibilities- Engineering Expertise
- Provide expert technical guidance and direction in the design, assessment, and optimisation of building services layouts.
- Apply specialist knowledge of services pipework, HVAC routing, installation methodologies, and modularisation techniques to support the evolving design.
- Ensure quality standards are maintained throughout the project lifecycle through technical reviews and contributions to key design review stages.
- Manage requirements effectively, documenting design assumptions, risks, and technical decisions to support programme delivery.
- Coordinate activities across multidisciplinary teams and manage work packages through structured project planning.
- Design & Innovation
- Drive the development of innovative mechanical and building services solutions, incorporating industry best practice and new technologies.
- Develop concept designs for building services routing, including 3D arrangements, penetrations, support structures, and routing optimisation.
- Support the development of modular and buildable design approaches.
- Facilitate stakeholder reviews and incorporate feedback to achieve safe, practical, and commercially effective design solutions.
- Collaboration
- Work closely with systems engineers, component engineers, civil and structural engineers, architects, project managers, and other technical disciplines.
- Ensure building services designs are fully integrated within wider project requirements and objectives.
- Regulatory Compliance
- Apply relevant legislation, industry standards, codes of practice, and engineering best practice.
- Promote safety-led design principles and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and safety requirements.
- Work in accordance with Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures at all times.
- Technical Documentation
- Review piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), component definitions, and technical specifications.
- Produce installation assembly specifications and supporting design documentation.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations and design reviews for senior stakeholders.
- Generate integration reports, technical assessments, and safety-related documentation to support project requirements.
- Proven experience in Building Services Engineering within a highly regulated industry.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, services pipework, routing, installation, and integration.
- Experience developing 3D layouts and coordinating multidisciplinary engineering designs.
- Ability to manage technical risks, requirements, and stakeholder engagement effectively.
- Strong technical documentation and presentation skills.
- Experience working within nuclear, energy, defence, infrastructure, or similarly regulated sectors would be advantageous.
