About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Designer to join their growing Engineering Services team, supporting a strong pipeline of long-term projects across the Water, Nuclear, Energy, Transport and Infrastructure sectors. With significant secured work in both Water and Nuclear, this role will focus on the preparation of detailed electrical design documentation for major engineering projects, ensuring designs are produced efficiently, accurately and in line with client and project requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Electrical Designer looking to work across complex multidisciplinary projects throughout the full project lifecycle, from early engineering studies and FEED phases through to detailed design, construction and commissioning support. The role is based from the Manchester office on Aviator Way, with hybrid working available and office attendance typically up to three days per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce high-quality electrical design deliverables in accordance with project specifications, industry standards and client requirements.
  • Develop detailed technical drawings and design documentation, transforming engineering parameters into physical layouts, schematics, models and construction-ready drawings.
  • Produce design deliverables including:
    • Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
    • Block Cable Diagrams
    • Cable Routing Diagrams
    • Electrical Schematics
    • Equipment Layouts
    • 3D Models
  • Prepare associated design documentation including:
    • Bills of Materials (BOMs)
    • Cable Schedules
    • Design Packs
    • Material Requisitions
  • Support or undertake the role of Senior Designer on project proposals and tender submissions.
  • Mentor and support the development of junior designers and less experienced team members.
  • Review and check drawings and design documentation in accordance with company procedures and quality requirements.
  • Liaise effectively with other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated and coordinated design solutions.
  • Ensure designs are safe, practical, operable and compliant with relevant legislation, standards and project requirements.
  • Support projects throughout the engineering lifecycle from concept and FEED stages through detailed design and construction support.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Significant experience working as an Electrical Designer within a complex engineering or industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical design principles, installation requirements and industry best practices.
  • Proven experience producing detailed electrical design documentation and drawings.
  • Proficient in CAD software with strong 3D modelling capability.
  • Experience using AVEVA PDMS / E3D or similar 3D design platforms.
  • Experience using Relux or equivalent lighting design software.
  • Good understanding of UK electrical legislation, standards and industry regulations.
  • Experience working across multiple stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Safety-focused approach with a strong understanding of risk management and safe design principles.
  • Qualified to City & Guilds, ONC, HNC, HND or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.

Desirable

  • Experience within one or more of the following sectors: Water, Nuclear, Energy, Green Energy, Rail, Highways, Pipelines.
  • EngTech or Incorporated Engineer status (or working towards professional registration).
