Estimating & Pricing Specialist This Estimating & Pricing (E&P) Specialist role will provide functional lead support and business partnering to an exciting and diverse portfolio of new business opportunities and campaigns across the organisation. Working in partnership with stakeholders, this role offers exciting opportunities including the development of accurate cost and pricing models, implementing pricing and risk mitigation strategies, enhancing our competitive advantage, creating enduring and profitable business propositions, and optimising the use of available data for improvement initiatives. The role sits within the E&P Team, taking leadership and guidance from the Head of E&P, and under management by the wider Commercial Function. The principal responsibility of the role will be to provide integrated estimating and pricing capabilities into both large and complex priority campaigns, as well as supporting other areas of the business on an arising basis, seeking to utilise tools and processes to optimally deliver more standardised products and support. As part of a dynamic and flexible team the role will also support other areas of the business as required including: implementation of functional improvements, opportunities for greater cross-functional collaboration and identifying business benefits. This is a full-time position based at our Bristol site, offering a hybrid working model that typically includes three days in the office each week. Responsibilities • Leads development of complex estimates and pricing from complex technical requirements through the design, build and support stages of the programme • Leads development and application of pricing strategies using innovative computational techniques • Leads and supports business proposals, evaluates and makes recommendations based on complex requests for proposal and substantiates the basis of estimates and pricing methods/data • Leads development of complex pricing models • Leads and performs complex analysis and provides recommendations in support of key pricing and estimating aspects (e.g. risk, financial, competitive) • Assures that technical requirements map to and meet solutions and are adequately costed, with challenges applied to ensure best value for money • Reviews and maintains cost and pricing data, leveraging company data to determine the most appropriate sources of information. This includes determining model/database requirements and identifying new data sources to enhance data accuracy and decision-making. • Supports the development, application and maintenance of unique and non-unique rates and factors for pricing • Provides guidance and recommendations for innovative approaches, methods and techniques to analyse, evaluate and resolve complex financial issues • Supports development of pricing rates and internal budget setting, optimising internal structures to ensure “market affordability” • Provides strategic guidance and recommendations to enhance the business position on Qualifying Defence Contract proposals • Leads and supports compilation and calculation of appropriate risks & uncertainty for proposals • Supports customer interactions on rates, cost assurance audits and cost model verification • Supports the post-submission transition to the Finance Operations team • Develops and manages E&P artefacts for proposals, determining required items and verifying their accuracy and compliance • Supports the Competitive Cost/Price Assessment (Price to Win) process for all competitive proposals Skills • Highly numerate; excellent analytical skills and attention to detail • Advanced Excel skills, including cost modelling, Power Query, data analysis, data manipulation and scenario modelling • Excellent communication and presentation skills - able to discuss and present complex information simply with internal stakeholders and our customer • Dedicated and proactive individual, providing clear, concise, comprehensive and accurate costing and pricing information. • Ability to justify cost estimates both internally and externally using imperfect information and assumptions • A positive and collaborative work attitude and team building approach • Adaptable and resourceful in delivering first-time quality; able to act fast and effectively in a dynamic environment, to manage a range of priorities with a diverse, fast-paced, high workload • Demonstrated ability to mentor/train and lead others • Business partnering and influencing skills • Proficiency in cost, pricing and risk analysis software (e.g. ProPricer, @Risk), with a demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to and master new systems • Understanding of competitive bidding principles Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): • Educated to degree level, preferably in a mathematical, financial or business-related discipline • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in cost estimating, pricing, or financial analysis, preferably within the defence, aerospace, or related sector • Demonstrable experience working in a matrix organization Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): • Strong IT proficiency • Significant prior experience of contracting with the UK Ministry of Defence or equivalent • Significant working experience within a defence or aerospace prime contractor, or equivalent Please apply or get in contact with / (phone number removed)
