Contract Length: 18 Months
Security Clearance: BPSS Required
Rate: Up to Β£38/hour PAYE or Β£51.89/hour Umbrella
IR35 Status: Inside IR35
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join a major engineering and infrastructure programme supporting critical industrial operations. This is an excellent opportunity to work on complex projects within a highly regulated environment, overseeing engineering solutions from concept through to commissioning and handover.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in delivering safe, effective, and compliant engineering projects while ensuring stakeholder requirements are met throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify project functional requirements and stakeholder needs.
- Support the development of Project Execution Plans, including design, safety, and commissioning strategies.
- Contribute to project optioneering and engineering decision-making.
- Develop concept designs and fit-for-purpose engineering solutions.
- Produce and review technical specifications and engineering documentation.
- Manage detailed design activities in line with engineering governance requirements.
- Prepare engineering modifications and technical proposals.
- Review and approve contractor documentation, including method statements and risk assessments.
- Provide technical oversight of construction and installation activities.
- Ensure works are delivered in accordance with design intent and quality requirements.
- Approve as-built documentation and maintain configuration control.
- Support commissioning, decommissioning, and operational handover activities.
- Collaborate with engineers, operators, contractors, and key stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
- Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Participate in event investigations and root cause analysis activities.
Essential Requirements
- HNC, Degree, or equivalent qualification at NQF Level 5/6 in an Engineering discipline.
- Experience in a practising engineering role within an industrial environment.
- Mechanical or Electrical engineering background.
- Proven project engineering experience within regulated or complex engineering environments.
- Strong understanding of relevant engineering standards and best practices.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Desirable Experience
- Knowledge of safety rules and risk assessment methodologies.
- Understanding of quality management systems and compliance frameworks.
- Experience working under CDM regulations.
- Contract management experience.
- Previous project delivery experience from concept through to handover.
