Summary: The Deputy Health & Safety (H&S) Manager will provide essential support to the H&S Manager by standing in during their absence and assisting with the overall management and delivery of health and safety across projects. This role involves active participation in weekly H&S team meetings, project review meetings, onboarding sessions, and H&S forums to ensure consistent communication and alignment of safety objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collating data and producing comprehensive H&S metrics reports
- Maintaining and implementing management systems across projects
- Driving continuous development of these systems
- Supporting and leading health and safety initiatives
- Covering for H&S Advisor roles as required
- Producing safety moments and safety alerts to promote awareness and best practice
- Conducting occasional project visits and inspections to monitor compliance and identify areas for improvement
- Performing other general health and safety duties as needed
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in fostering a positive safety culture and ensuring that all health and safety standards and statutory requirements are met throughout the project lifecycle.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and best practices
- Experience supporting and deputising for H&S management roles
- Ability to collate, analyse, and report H&S metrics effectively
- Competence in maintaining and developing health and safety management systems
- Leadership in driving H&S initiatives and promoting safety culture
- Experience conducting site visits and inspections
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to produce clear safety alerts and safety moments
- Strong organisational and multitasking abilities
- Proactive problem-solving and risk management skills
Software/Tools:
- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- H&S management and reporting software (e.g. Safety Culture, IMS platforms)
Certifications & Standards:
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent (preferred)
- Knowledge of ISO 45001 and other relevant H&S standards
