You will be based at our Bristol and Bridgwater offices, with the potential to work from the HPC site when required. This is a hybrid role, offering the flexibility to combine working from home and the office.

The successful candidate will work within a team of engineers to deliver elements of the Spares Engineering Work Scope. This includes:

  • Developing and delivering spares strategies for all systems across HPC
  • Implementing the obsolescence strategy for HPC
  • Delivering strategic spares strategies for HPC
  • Standardising spares strategies for HPC

The role involves technical analysis, optimisation, selection, approval, and procurement of both strategic and non-strategic spare parts. You will liaise with a wide range of stakeholders, with a strong emphasis on coordinating with other disciplines to successfully deliver projects.

The Spare Engineer will be part of the CommOps Supply Chain Team, within the HPB CommOps Department Maintenance Programme. The Maintenance Programme manages the delivery of maintenance strategies for HPC, now and in the future. CommOps oversees the management of all commissioning and operational activities for HPC.

Principal Accountabilities (may include some or all of the following):

  • Produce technical reviews recommending procurement of spare parts for mechanical, electrical, and I&C equipment.
  • Present technical reviews to stakeholders to secure endorsement, ensuring alignment with commissioning and maintenance programme requirements.
  • Manage project phase equipment obsolescence, developing initial engineering solutions and recommending component procurement.
  • Develop and deliver processes for conducting business during both project phases and plant operation.
  • Own the procurement of Strategic Spares, producing technical reports based on ODC guidance.
  • Provide oversight during manufacturing by attending Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Ready for Receipt Meetings (RRMs).
  • Support delivery and storage arrangements for strategic spares.
  • Manage the standardised spares list, ensuring spares are delivered in line with commissioning and maintenance deadlines.
  • Maintain and develop technical and functional relationships with other HPC departments, EPR Family Stations, and EDF Energy's existing Nuclear Business.
  • Research and apply operating experience from wider industries to promote HPC as a world-class performer.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Process Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 1 year's experience in a similar role.
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally to supplier and client facilities.
  • Driven and self-motivated, with the ability to take on responsibility quickly, supported by the team.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, reports, and information from various data sources.
  • Experience developing and following procedures.
  • Previous experience working in a project environment.
  • Experience interacting with a diverse range of suppliers and customers, both UK-based and international.
  • Strong report writing skills, including technical business cases.
