We are recruiting a contractor for a Systems Engineer focused on Nuclear Hardening (NH) compliant ground system installation design at our client's Portsmouth site. This team is responsible for the satellite communication solutions which include ground based installations of satellite control and communication equipment such as computer server systems, network infrastructure and transmission systems. The primary focus for this role at the Portsmouth site is for the design of equipment installations which are compliant with Nuclear Hardening standards within the ground based MilSatcom domain.
Responsibilities
- Support the Systems team in designing a compliant equipment installation design with associated test plans and compliance evidence.
- This support spans all aspects of the system lifecycle from initial design through installation to customer handover.
Tasks and accountabilities
- Identify the stakeholder for the solution to be developed and capture their needs and expectations.
- Identify boundary of the solution to be developed.
- Elicit and validate requirements for NH whilst considering the complete system lifecycle.
- Design and define possible architectures, in collaboration with IS/IT specialists, considering the functions and other requirements (constraints).
- Identify mitigations to the NH requirements based on installation environment.
- Identify responses to the NH requirements based on evaluation of NH processes in the context of a military fixed ground installation.
- Produce NH analysis and mitigation plans as appropriate, including any relevant test plans.
- Lead the engagement with test houses to fully define the approach.
- Lead the engagement with customer stakeholders to fully agree the NH response.
- Lead modelling using appropriate systems engineering techniques.
- Lead analysis (e.g., performance).
- Perform trade-off analysis in order to select the best solution fulfilling the requirements.
- Validate architecture.
- Define and manage interface requirements.
- Lead verification of the implementation and its interfaces.
- Lead operational and in-service evaluation.
- Lead impact analysis of any design change request during the entire product lifecycle.
Key Skills / Proven Ability
Essential
- Familiarity with NH standards – preferable.
- Knowledge of NH analysis, test specifications, test procedures, test setups, test data - preferable.
- Customer NH requirements analysis.
- System level NH design, development and solutions, including GFE environments and mitigations.
- NH Equipment selection.
- Practical experience of installation of electrical equipment, including rack installation and compliant cabling practices - essential.
- Understanding of the effects of electrical equipment (and cabling) interference, and methods for mitigating interference - essential.
- Electrical safety certification.
- Previous experience of generating test plans for sign-off of electrical equipment installation, preferably with NH experience.
- Verification, Validation & integration.
- Transition to Operation.
- Ability to safeguard security classified and/or export-controlled data.
Desirable
- Knowledge in the following areas is preferred but not essential:
- Military ground site installations and associated standards.
- Military communications systems.
The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. It is likely that the candidate may need to be subject to Defence Vetting.
