My client is seeking an experienced Refrigeration Engineer to join their Workplace Management Engineering team as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and technical coordinator in the London area.
This off-the-tools management role focuses on overseeing the performance, compliance, and lifecycle management of refrigeration and air conditioning systems across a UK portfolio.
You will act as the technical specialist for chillers, CRAC units, split systems, FCUs, and AHUs, managing maintenance programmes, ensuring regulatory compliance including F-Gas register management, coordinating contractors and specialist service providers, and providing expert technical guidance to site teams and stakeholders.
While primarily supervisory, the role requires hands-on support during emergency breakdowns.
As the Main Point of Contact (MPOC) for all refrigeration and air conditioning matters, you will ensure optimal system performance, planned maintenance delivery, and swift resolution of technical issues.
Key Responsibilities Provide SME technical oversight for refrigeration and air conditioning systems including chillers, CRAC units, split systems, FCUs, and AHUs Manage and maintain F-Gas registers in compliance with UK and EU regulations Ensure all systems meet statutory and environmental standards through compliance audits and leak checks Oversee planning, scheduling, and delivery of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programmes Monitor contractor performance and ensure quality and safety standards are met Manage lifecycle of refrigeration and air conditioning assets, including repair planning and replacement recommendations Coordinate and manage specialist contractors and service providers, acting as MPOC Provide technical support during emergency breakdowns and system commissioning Maintain comprehensive asset registers, condition assessments, and maintenance histories Liaise with internal stakeholders, clients, and contractors to communicate progress and resolve issues
Skills Extensive knowledge of refrigeration and air conditioning systems (chillers, CRAC units, split systems, FCUs, AHUs) Expertise in F-Gas regulations and register management Strong understanding of statutory compliance and environmental standards Experience managing Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programmes Proven ability to coordinate and manage contractors and specialist service providers Technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills Asset lifecycle management and repair planning Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills Ability to provide hands-on technical support during emergencies Strong organisational and planning abilities
Software/Tools CAFM systems (for maintenance scheduling and asset management) F-Gas register management tools (specific software may vary) Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) Certifications & Standards Valid F-Gas certification (essential for overseeing refrigerant handling and compliance) Relevant refrigeration and air conditioning engineering qualifications Health and Safety compliance knowledge related to refrigeration systems Awareness of UK and EU environmental regulations regarding refrigerants
This is a temp to perm role paying Β£31.25 per hour PAYE + holiday pay or Β£41.25 per hour Umbrella.
