About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Gas Designer to join our design team and play a key role in delivering high-quality gas infrastructure projects. You will be involved throughout the design process, from initial site surveys and project set-up through to detailed design, governance and construction support. Working closely with experienced engineers, project teams, clients and external consultants, you will have the opportunity to develop your technical expertise while contributing to high-profile gas projects across the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor industry best practices, recommend new design approaches and identify emerging trends.
- Develop high-quality design concepts, working collaboratively through design iterations and actively seeking feedback from relevant stakeholders.
- Work across all phases of projects, including project set-up, programming, design and CDM documentation.
- Request and review STAT plans.
- Provide technical design support to other members of the design team.
- Collaborate with internal design teams, client design teams and external consultants to deliver projects effectively.
- Respond to and resolve design issues with clients, third-party organisations and subcontractors.
- Produce weekly design reports and present design information during regular design output meetings.
- Undertake regular site visits and surveys to gather information for detailed designs and as-laid drawings.
- Represent the organisation at pre-design and walk-off meetings with clients.
- Ensure compliance with CDM 2015 throughout the design process.
- Create and maintain the Health & Safety File throughout the various stages of the project, ensuring it is accurate, up to date and available at project completion.
- Produce high-quality, detailed technical drawings, plans and general arrangements.
- Work alongside Framework Managers, Project Managers, Operations Managers and Design Managers to ensure schemes are delivered within budget and agreed timescales.
- Assist with design queries during construction, providing support to site-based teams.
- Take designs through the client's G17 governance process.
- Travel to sites across the UK may be required for tender events, site surveys and design reviews.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Engineering qualifications are desirable, although relevant industry experience will also be considered.
- Experience designing intermediate-pressure and high-pressure gas mains.
- Previous experience working within the gas industry on complex or high-profile projects.
- Good understanding of relevant gas industry engineering specifications and IGEM standards.
- Knowledge and awareness of CDM 2015.
- Proficient user of AutoCAD.
- Competent using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage workloads across multiple projects.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- A proactive approach to identifying and resolving design issues.
- Willingness to mentor and support less experienced colleagues.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
