Morson Edge are working with a major UK infrastructure programme delivering one of the country's most significant energy projects, supporting long-term security of supply and the UK's Net Zero ambitions.
As the project continues through its construction phase, we are seeking an experienced Building Architectural Contract Engineering Lead to join the London-based design delivery team on a 12-month contract (Inside IR35).
The Role
Embedded within the site buildings design delivery team, you will take responsibility for the architectural and building design delivery across a defined package of works. This role focuses on managing design from concept and basic design through to detailed design, ensuring quality, safety, programme, and compliance requirements are met. You will work closely with internal discipline leads and external design partners in a highly regulated, multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the design delivery of contract buildings to agreed programme, quality, and safety standards.
- Act as the principal technical point of contact and Responsible Designer for your scope.
- Coordinate design activities across multiple disciplines and external partners.
- Develop and manage scopes of work and technical specifications.
- Oversee design reviews, gateways, and constructability assessments.
- Ensure compliance with UK regulations, project standards, and safety requirements.
- Manage technical risk, interfaces, and configuration control.
- Monitor design schedules, deliverables, and milestones in line with the wider programme.
- Support change management, early warnings, and technical input into commercial discussions.
- Maintain and update technical risk registers and manage close-out of actions.
About You
- Strong background in building and architectural design management on major infrastructure projects.
- Experience operating within highly regulated environments (nuclear, defence, energy, or similar).
- Solid technical understanding of UK building standards and design processes.
- Confident managing external designers and multidisciplinary teams.
- Proactive, organised, and comfortable working autonomously.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Degree-qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering or architectural discipline.
- Knowledge of UK regulatory and compliance frameworks.
- Ability to obtain UK security clearance (including Counter Terrorism Check).
- Chartered status beneficial but not essential.
