We are looking for Senior CS&A Engineers (Structural) to be based 3 days a week at Hinton House, Warrington on a contract basis. The Senior CS&A Engineer (Structural) is responsible for the delivery of structural engineering outputs within their assigned scope of work.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Senior CS&A Engineer (Structural) is responsible for the delivery of structural engineering outputs within their assigned scope of work.
  • Operating in accordance with the Sellafield Ltd Roles, Responsibilities, Accountabilities and Authorities (R2A2) for Design Engineer (ED23), the Senior CS&A Engineer applies sound structural engineering judgement to develop, check, and deliver safe, compliant, and fit-for-purpose civil and structural engineering solutions.
  • The role operates with a high degree of autonomy within defined scope and is responsible for the technical checking and verification of structural engineering documents and drawings in accordance with applicable governance arrangements.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Demonstrable experience delivering structural engineering design within a regulated or complex engineering environment.
  • Experience developing and checking structural engineering deliverables in accordance with applicable standards, procedures, and technical specifications.
  • Experience undertaking structural analysis, assessment, and verification of new and existing structures.
  • Experience applying relevant codes and standards (e.g. Eurocodes, BS standards, nuclear-specific standards where applicable).
  • Experience assessing structural integrity, load paths, stability, and serviceability considerations.
  • Experience identifying, recording, and managing technical risks, assumptions, and constraints.
  • Experience supporting design reviews, independent checking, and technical assurance processes.
  • Experience working within multi-disciplinary engineering teams and interfacing with other disciplines (e.g. mechanical, EC&I, project management).
  • Demonstrated commitment to nuclear safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Relevant structural engineering experience commensurate with a senior engineer role.
  • Ability to meet role-specific security clearance and site access requirements.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

  • Experience delivering structural engineering in a nuclear or safety-critical environment.
  • Experience in structural assessment of existing assets, including ageing infrastructure and modification works.
  • Experience supporting safety case development through structural substantiation and justification.
  • Experience across multiple stages of the engineering lifecycle (concept, optioneering, detailed design, construction support).
  • Experience providing technical guidance or mentoring to junior engineers or designers.
  • Familiarity with Sellafield engineering governance and gated processes.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with a relevant professional institution (e.g. ICE, IStructE) or working towards.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Structural Engineering (desirable but not essential).
  • Formal training in nuclear safety, structural integrity, or finite element analysis tools.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • The Senior CS&A Engineer (Structural) will operate in accordance with the Sellafield Ltd R2A2 for Design Engineer (ED23).
  • The role operates within delegated technical authority and does not hold Design Lead or Responsible Engineer accountability unless formally appointed.
  • Engineering outputs will be subject to checking, review, and approval in accordance with project and organisational governance arrangements.
  • The role may support multiple tasks or projects concurrently and contribute across different stages of the engineering lifecycle.
