The Airworthiness Engineer is responsible for ensuring that aerospace platforms, systems, and modifications comply with applicable airworthiness, regulatory, and safety requirements. The role provides technical capability in certification planning, compliance demonstration, regulatory interpretation, and safety assessment. The post holder supports the full engineering lifecycle - from concept development and design through to testing, certification, and continued airworthiness - ensuring that all engineering activities meet regulatory, customer, and organisational obligations.

You will:

  • Develop and maintain airworthiness compliance plans, certification matrices, and regulatory checklists.
  • Support safety assessments including FHA, PSSA, SSA, and FMEA activities.
  • Work closely with systems, mechanical, electrical, and flight sciences teams to ensure designs meet airworthiness and certification requirements.
  • Support ground and flight test programmes by defining certification-related test objectives and data requirements.
  • Ensure all airworthiness engineering activities comply with UK Health & Safety legislation including HASAWA 1974.

Essential

  • Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Knowledge of airworthiness, certification, or safety engineering within aerospace or defence environments.
  • Understanding of regulatory frameworks (e.g., EASA CS-23/25/27/29, MAA RA, FAA FARs).
  • Experience supporting safety assessments and compliance demonstration activities.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and test data.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across engineering teams.
  • Working knowledge of configuration control, quality management, and engineering governance processes.
